Ann Seabrook was baptised on 13th October 1816 at Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire, daughter of James and Rebecca Seabrook. The family lived at Leverstock Green, a hamlet to the east of the town itself.

Ann's next sighting is on 7th April 1839 when she was married at Flamstead to George Smith, who was from Luton in Bedfordshire. After their marriage they settled at Ainsworth Passage, which was a narrow courtyard of cottages off Park Street in Luton.[7] They appear in each census from 1851 to 1871 at Ainsworth Passage. Ann worked as a bonnet sewer and laundress, whilst George was an agricultural labourer.

Ann and George appear to have had eight children together, but six of them died as babies. Indeed, four of their children died nameless, presumably indicating a death very soon after birth.

Ann appears to have died in 1880, aged 63. George seems to have survived her by just over a year.
