Ann Phipps' origins are unknown. Her first confirmed sighting is on 5th October 1729 when she married a baker named Michael Jeeves at Letchworth in Hertfordshire, although both of them were living in the neighbouring town of Hitchin at the time of their marriage.

Between 1732 and 1741 they had four daughters baptised at Hitchin, although the youngest died at two years old. Ann has yet to be traced after 1741.
