Ann Pateman's origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 7th April 1782, when she married a labourer called Joseph Cannon at Hitchin in Hertfordshire. They went on to have three children baptised at Hitchin between 1787 and 1791, although the first died as a baby. Ann died a few weeks after her third child was baptised; he was baptised on 15th May 1791 and she was buried on 3rd July 1791. The baby did not long survive her, being buried on 17th August 1791. Joseph survived Ann by over fifty years, and remarried a few months after her death. References
