"I have obtained a copy of the marriage certificate of Richard Davie to Ann Hawkings. It took place at St Mary Arches Church in Exeter, 2nd November 1875. He is of full age and a widower. More importantly, his father is said to be the late William Davie, a mason. Ann Hawkings was a widow, and her fathers name was Elias Milton, a deceased labourer. I presume Hawkings was her previous married name. Richard and Ann both made their mark."
