Anita Jean McClung, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, September 4 after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her family. Anita was born in Enterprise, Oregon on March 1, 1963 to Norris and Ruth (Treadway) McClung. She joined siblings Pamela Sue and Bradley David. Shortly after her birth, her father died and the family moved back to Fayette County, West Virginia to live among both her mother and father’s families. In 1965, Anita’s mother married George “Papa” Eder, Jr and the family moved to Nashville then Greenbrier, Tennessee. She graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1981 and began attending Austin Peay State University, where she was a member of the Sigma Chi Eta Xi Chapter. If you asked Anita, she would say her greatest accomplishment was raising her beloved son, Christopher George McClung. She was extremely proud of him and joyously supported his baseball, football and 4-H activities. Together, they raised many small farm animals. Her other great loves were her Shih tzu dogs, the University of Tennessee Vols and genealogical research. She accumulated reams of information about all branches of her family and documented several local cemeteries. She was also an avid crafter and created many lovely quilts, as well as a gardener and champion cornbread baker. She was a member of the Lookout Baptist Church, the United Mine Workers Union, the Fayette-Raleigh County Genealogy Society and served as secretary for the Captain James Allen Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Anita is survived by her son, Christopher, her parents, George and Ruth Eder, brother Brad (Terri) McClung of Winnsboro, South Carolina and Pamela (Dana) Reese of Echo, Oregon, and special uncle Warren McClung of Lenore, West Virginia, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Norris Delano McClung, and grandparents Aubrey and Jessie McClung, Samuel and Russie Treadway, and George and Alma Eder. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday September 11th at High Lawn Funeral Home with Michael D. Parsons officiating. Burial to immediately follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.
