  1. ST. GEORGE - Andrew Ronald Price, 89, died in St. George, Utah January 22, 2006. He was born November 2, 1916 to Andrew Bird McArthur "Biz" and Annie Charlotte Rencher Price "Ann" in St. George, Utah. He married Barbara Truman on June 19, 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada. That marriage was solemnized on June 15, 1965 in the St. George Temple.
A great deal of his early years were spent with his Uncle Mason S. Rencher at the ranch in Grass Valley, just north of Pine Valley. He graduated from Dixie High School in 1935, where he excelled in basketball and attended one year at Dixie Jr. College. He also played for the American Legion Jr. Baseball program and was a member of the St. George town team, beginning at the age of 15. In 1942 he was inducted into the Army and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and former commander of Post #90; also a former member of the VFW.
Andy worked for the City of St. George for 28 years and retired as the Municipal Engineer December 31, 1978. During this time he was influential in upgrading the curb and gutters, paving the streets, and spent many days trying to find a good source of water for the city. The city wells in Gunlock were drilled because of his work, and he assisted in the creation of the first golf course in the area. Andy enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf in his earlier years, and especially gardening.
He had such pride in grooming the most beautiful lawn in the neighborhood. He loved spending time with his family at the cabin on Kolob Mountain where he cooked his famous Dutch oven dinners. Later, the home in Pine Valley became the summer retreat.
Andy was a member of the LDS Church, serving in the Elder's Quorum and as a home teacher of the St. George 3rd Ward.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Barbara; son, Paul (Stephani); daughter, Patricia; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren (two more on the way). He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Roy Williams; brothers, Blaine and Stanford; and daughter-in-law, SusAnne.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2006, 11 a.m. at the St. George LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 500 N. 300 W., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Wednesday, January 25, 6-8 p.m., Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd. and again Thursday, 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the services at the 3rd Ward Chapel. Interment will be at the Pine Valley Cemetery, 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2006 under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
