Chattanooga Daily Times 4 Feb 1900 from article on family: Andrew Patterson, son of James Patterson and father of Judge David T. Patterson, the future senator was born in Botetourt county, Virgina in 1777, one of the darkest periods of the revolution. He came with his parents to Tennessee in 1783, when about 7 years old. He afterwards became quite prominent in the affairs of Greene county. He filled the office of sheriff, and also deputy sheriff and was county court clerk for more than twenty years. He married Miss Susan Trotter, of Leesburg, Washington Co TN, whose father Alexander Trotter, was a millwright, and came originally from Virginia. Andrew Patterson resigned the office of county court clerk in 1834? and returned to Greeneville district South Carolina but in 1842 he settled near Independence, Jackson Co MO where both he and his wife died of cholera in May 1849.
