The cold finger of death has invaded our community, and claimed for its victim Andrew J. Myers, our beloved friend and neighbor, who after a throat illness, departed this life, March 21, 1901.

The deceased was born in Carolina, Oct 15, 1819. He, with his parents, immigrated to Parke County, when he was a small boy. He was reared to manhood in the wilderness of Howard Township, where he accumulated a farm, reared a large family, and spent the remainder of his days. He was married to Mrs. Martha Brent more than fifty years ago. To this union was given six children, four sons and two daughters - James D Myers, George W., William B., and Francis M. The daughters Mrs. Sattie C Myers, wife of H. A. Myers, our ex-commissioner, and Mrs. Mary E. Lawson. His affectionate wife died 26 years ago, and he was remarried to Mrs., Mary Clarke, who still survives.

Like his namesake, Mr. Myers was a man of indomitable courage, unswerving honestly and unlimited generosity. No hungry pilgrim was turned from his door, no person in need or distress passed beneath his notice, or without a liberal contribution from him. He was inured to manual labor, and profited thereby. In polities he was a Democrat, and no man was truer to his political convictions than he. He cast his first vote for Martin Van Buren, in 1840, and his last vote for William J. Bryan, in 1900. The life of Andrew J. Myers has wrought a permanent good in the great tide of human existence. He leaves a wife, five children and numerous other relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Funeral services were conducted at the house, Saturday, by Rev. Whitman, of the Lutheran church, of Wallace, after which interment took place at Wolf Creek cemetery, witnessed by relatives and friends.

We tender the bereaved family our sympathy in this sad event, which has deprived them of their dear husband and father, and the community of a worthy and respected citizen.
