Facts and Events
Some history of the McMeans coming to the Forks of the Yough: Andrew McMeins (also found "McMeans") was b. Bethesda, Maryland in 1740 (according to wife Anne's Bible). (Perhaps Charles McMeans (of Cecil Co, MD above) was a bro. to Andrew?). He married Anne Wilson of Maryland, they were married in 1762 in Landcaster Co. PA. They owned a farm in Franklin Co Pa. & sold it in 1778. They went to KY & Andrew purchased land at Floyds Fork & Salt River. He helped build Fort Jefferson which is now Wickliff, KY. He died there in 1780. Anne returned to PA with her children. Ann re-married a Jamerson. Note: Genforum has "Andrew McMeans 1740", by Jan Baker 2002. She listed a copy of Anne's narritive written in 1827. |
