Elton, Town of Freedom, Cattaraugus Co,. first known as Colon Settlement Cemetery is on Main Street in Village neatly fenced and seeded in very nice shape.

I had written a couple of queries here about ancestors of Andrew Knight of Farmersville, NY.

Andrew and Sarah Knight both show up in the 1850 Farmersville, Cattaraugus County, New York census (both born 1775-76 in Rhode Island). According to the "Historical Gazetteer and Biographical Memorial of Cattaraugus Co. NY", ed by William Adams, pub 1893, the family came to Farmersville from Pittsfield, Ostego County, NY. Andrew Knight, Jr. (a son) was born at Pittsfield in 1808 per the book.

A Worldconnect database mentions Andrew Knight. From the book "History of New Berlin, Ostego County, NY":: "Andrew and his brother William came from Rhode Island about 1799. The latter sold his farm to Jabez Arnold in 1802 and returned with his family to Rhode Island. Andrew settled in the South part of New Berlin village, where Sanford Kingsbury now lives, and some five or six years later removed with his family to Pittsfield, Ostego County, New York."

The WC database uses the history book in reference to William with no further info on Andrew. The WC db has their father as Henry Knight. Andrew, son of Henry married Sarah Sheldon. The book "Descendants of Richard Knight...Vol. 2" by Cooper also has Henry Knight as Andrew's father, William Knight as Andrew's brother, and Sarah Sheldon as Andrew's spouse.

It still mystifies me why Andrew and Sarah (Sheldon) Knight have headstones next to Gorton and Marcena (Alger) Knight at Elton Cemetery, Freedom, NY. Andrew and Gorton are 3rd cousins!
