At the time of his Mayoralty, Andy Dolan was President of the Merville Lawn Tennis Club, Vice-President of the Connaught Branch of the Irish Lawn Tennis Club and a member of the General Council. He was also Vice-President of St. John's Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and life-long member and President of the Sligo Total Abstinence League. He was first Secretary of Sligo Rovers Football Club. He joined the Red Cross at the outbreak of 'The Emergency' (WWII), and was promoted to Divisional Officer.
