Sir;
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 97880 and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files fo this Office. It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that Andrew J. Butler was enrolled on the 12th day of October, 1863, at Camp Jarvis, W. Va in Co. G, 9th Regiment of Virginia Volunteers to serve 3 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a Private on the 29th day of February, 1864, at Fayetteville W. Va, in Co. G, 9th Regiment of Virginia Volunteers to serve 3 years or during the war. On the Return of that Regiment, for the month of June, 1864, he is reported "died of wounds at Fayette, May 23rd 1864" (How wounds received not stated)
