Andrew was born in Cheshire, England in 1709. In 1736 he married Harriet Hanley in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Harriet died young and his second marriage in March 1741 was to Rebecca Clark at Chester Cross Roads, Pennsylvania.

He came to the US to New Castle, Delaware, on the ship "Hamden".

Andrew's son James Amos moved from Pennsylvania to Delaware and finally to Frederick County, MD in 1761.
