Andrew Allen's Will

"I Andrew Allin of the Town of Andover in conty of Essex in new-england being Aged and weake in body: tho through gods marcy: I retayn my understanding: I doe make this my last Will and testiment/… 1 I give to my loveing wife faith Allin a yearly legacy duering the terme of hir naturall life as shall be afterwards expressed in this my will and the use of all my houshold goods for Her life: and Shee to despose of them at or before hir death as shee ses cause but amongst my daughters: and also the Liveing in the new end of my hous which shall be at her depose without control: which shall be maintained from time to time in good comfortable repayor by my son Andrew: and also hir gardin and halfe the orchard: and one cowe: and five sheep: for which cow: and five Sheep my soons Andrew and John Shall lay in good hay soficent to winter them from yeare to yeare at their owne charge aqually between them so long as their mother lives

2 I give to my sone Andrew Allin the other end of my dwelling hous: one halfe of my orchard plowland and pasture land at hom: and all my divition land lying from hom: except my last devition: and three quarters of my hom madow So called; and that part of my last Devition of madow that lyeth beyond his devition of Upland: and this to have whil his mother liveth; he paying yearly to his mother : dueling the full tarme of hir naturall life: five bushels of good wheat: and five bushels of good Endian corne and five bushels and a halfe of rey: and fourscore wayt of good porke and halfe her fier wood cut fit for the fier which she nedeth and tenn pound of good flax from the swingle and all this so long as his mother liveth/and at hir decese my will is that my Soone Androw Shall have my hole house and all my orchard and land at hom and all my hom madow besides what is fore spoken of: and what stock Calves is left at my decese exceptin what in this my will is given away: Andrew is to have the one half of them

3 I give unto my soone John Alin all my last devition of upland excepting twenty acers: and all my persell of madow … and also the ues of one half of my land about or nere my hous duering the tarme of his mother life: and also one halfe of my liveing stock of calves at my decease excepting what are given a way in this my will: and also the ues of one quarter part of my hom madow the tarme of his mother life/and in consideration … [he is also to allow certain necessaries to his mothr] …

4. I give to fouer daughters namely: mary touthacer: Sarah Hotl: martha Carier and Hannah Holt: besides what I have given them already: ach of them a sheep or the worth of one …

5. I give to my grand soone Allin Toothacor twenty acres of my last divition land to be layd out where my soone John plaseth so he lay it out all together in case he com hom from (sic) the war: if not to go to my soone John

6 and farther my will is that if the cowe fore spoken of: I have given to my wife: Should dy: or grow old not fit for her to keep: then my soones shall aqually between them at their owne charge provid her another: and so from time to time as long as my wife shall live

And lastly my will is tht if either of my soons or both should fayle intheire Yearly payments to thire mother adordin to the tru intent of this my will: then it shall be lawful for hir to ses upon any part of thire estats to make good what thay ought to pay: and I do apynt my loving wife faith Allin and my soone Andrew Allin to be my executors of this my will And I do deiser my Brother Henry Ingols: and Captn Thomas Chandler to be my over seers: and to be helpful to my axutors as thay may have ned and in Tocken that this is my last will and tastiment I have here unto Sat my hand and Seale this sixth day of October in the yeare of our lord one thousand six hundred and ninety
