Facts and Events
He was a resident of Sullivan for many years. "In early life he was a sailor, (as were two of his brothers) going long voyages to distant waters and visiting many countries, having varied experiences, at one time being chased by Malays he swam to his ship, they following him with knives, as weapons, carried in their teeth." (Wardwell Genealogy, by Elizabeth Wardwell Stay). He was a captain of the Militia; represented the town at General Court, and held various offices of trust. All the citizens of the town, as a rule, attended funerals in the olden time. At the funeral of the first wife of Amos Wardwell, Sr., a town meeting adjourned, for a time, to afford all an opportunity to be present. -History of the Town of Sullivan, New Hampshire References
