Amos Merrihew was born September 2, 1738 and was the son of Preserved Merrihew and Sarah Taber. He was a farmer and with his entire family, excepting his son Peter, removed, in the later part of the 1700's, to that part of New York then known as "Nine Partners." Nine Partners Great was a large tract of land granted to nine proprietors, or partners, from which circumstance it was called Great Nine Partners, and was before the late subdivision of towns, comprised within the towns of Armenia, Clinton, Stafford and Washington. It extended from the Hudson to the west line of Connecticut. Nine Partners Little was a smaller grant, now in Northeast and Milan and these names are now in considerable use. ~~ Hist. and Geneal.
