- The mother of all the children must have been Amos's first wife, but there is no record of an earlier marriage for Amos.
- Records of Amos before his marriage to Harriet have not been found. He gets confused with Moses Hirst in Ancestry. Moses was a son of Joseph and Elizth Hirst of Kippax, bapt 6 Jan 1822 (FHL film 918344), but Amos stated he was born in Austonley.
Moses married Mary Walker 7 Apr 1850 at Leeds (West Yorkshire, C of E Marriages and Banns) and died Jan-Feb-Mar 1866 in Holbeck Reg'n Dist, West Riding of Yorkshire
