    Amos A. Eckel Sr.(1928-11-29 - 2014-05-18)
    Amos A. Eckel Sr., 85, of Delmont, died peacefully Sunday, May 18, 2014, at home with his devoted family at his side. He was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Amos and Helen (Kapalka) Eckel. Prior to retirement, Amos was employed as a controller by PPG Industries. He was a proud Marine veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 40 years, Ann S. (Speal) Steel Eckel; stepson, Jimmy Steel; stepsister, Joanne Rendos; and stepfather, Steve Kors Sr. Amos will be greatly missed by his loving family. He is survived by his children, Patty (Dave) Fligger, of Penn Township, Donna McCullough, of Mt. Pleasant, and Amos A. "Tony" (Carolyn) Eckel Jr., of Greensburg; stepbrother, Steve Kors Jr., of Dayton, Ohio; and stepsister, Kim Hunker, of Scottdale. Amos will be especially missed by his grandchildren, Marc Hewlett, Melissa Fligger, Zac (Stephanie) Cross, Hope (Steve) Dezember, Michael Eckel and Shane Eckel; and great-grandchildren, Luke and Mia Cross. Family and friends were received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177. Funeral services for Amos will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Crossley of Donegal C and MA, officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded by VFW Post 33 Honor Guard, Greensburg, will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.
