OBITUARY

MR. AMOS ALDOUS

Mr. Amos Aldous, of Oxley Island, passed away in the M.R.D. Hospital on Sunday at 11am. He had been ill for the last 18 months and had spent about three months in the M.R.D). Hospital and Mayo Private Hospital, and during the remainder of the time he was nursed by his wife and daughters at home. He was last taken to the M.R. D. Hospital by the ambulance on Friday night. Mr. Aldous was born at Warragee, about 5 miles from Nowra, 66 years ago. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isiah Aldous, of Nowra. For some years he managed stud farms on the South Coast for the late Charles Lamond and Mr. James Prichard. He came to the Manning in 1916 and for five years he managed Carlton Park, Cundle Plains, for Mr. Alex. Perrett. He went from there, to Kolodong to manage Mr. John Neale's property for three years, and from there, on 1st September, 1924, he went to Oxley Island to manage Mr. James Cowan's farm, where he remained until his death. The late Mr. Aldous was a painstaking and industrious farmer, whose work gave complete satisfaction to the owners of the properties he had managed. He was a man of splendid personal qualities, and during his residence on the Manning he made a wide circle of genuine friends. He was always cheerful and obliging, and was happy in his associations with his fellows. He was married, on the South Coast to Miss Rosannah McPhillamy, who survives him, together with a family of 13 children namely: Misses Gertie, .Elsie and Peggy Aldous, and Messrs. Ivan and Gordon (at home); Edward (Lansdowne), James and Leslie (Sydney); Mrs. C. R. Potts, Mrs. Harry Wellings, Mrs. Les Southwell (Sydney), Mrs. E. Blore (Cundle Plains), Mrs. J. L. Hammond (Moto). One son, Lindsay, died at the age of two years. One sister, Mrs. Louise Windley, of Svdney, survives. Two sisters and a brother predeceased him. They were Miss Selina Aldous, Mrs. Gertrude Forbes, and Mr. Isiah Aldous, of Nowra. The cortege moved from Mr. W. T. Howard 's parlors at 1.30 p.m. on Monday for the Dawson cemetery. Rev. W. Latham conducted the service in the presence of the relatives and friends.

Mr. Amos Aldous, of Oxley Island, after a lengthy illness, passed away in the M.R.D. Hospital, on Sunday week, at the age of 66. The late Mr. Aldous, who was a native of the South Coast, was born near Nowra and spent his early life on farms on the South Coast. He came to the Manning in 1916. For a time he resided at Cundle Plains, then at Kolodong and since 1924 had resided on Oxley Island. He leaves a widow and the following family: Misses Gertrude, Elsie and Peggy (Oxley Island), Messrs. Ivan Aldous and Gordon Aldous (Oxley Island), Mr. Edward Aldous (Lansdowne), Messrs. James Aldous and Leslie Aldous (Sydney), Mrs. C. R. Potts, Mrs. Harry Wellings, Mrs. Les. Southwell (all of Sydney), Mrs. E. Blore (Cundle Plains). Mrs. J. E. Hammond (Moto). One son died in infancy. Mrs. Winley (Sydney), a sister, is the only surviving member of Mr. Aldous' family. The late Mr. Aldous was a hard working, quiet living man. The funeral left Mr. W. T. Howard's funeral parlours for the Dawson cemetery on Monday afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev. W. Latham.
