Amelia Brady, was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island where she was educated in a good school. "However when she came to Utah at age ten with her mother Susan, the education wasn�t available, so she educated herself." Amelia took the name Cook, after her mother married Henry Cook in 1852.

At the age of twenty Amelia married Alexander Glass Gourley 19 July 1860 in Eureka, Juab county, Utah. Alexander was born in Scotland and immigrated to Utah, crossing the plains in Captain Martin's handcart company in 1856. He was 15 years old and suffered all the hardships of that journey and entered the valley of Salt Lake on 6th of November the same year.

He and Amelia raised their nine children in Goshen, Utah where she worked in the Relief Society of her church for many years. She taught children and served as Primary President in Goshen. "Amelia was surrounded by family in Goshen. Her mother and family were there, and her in-laws, also lived there. After a life of family and religion, Amelia passed away at the age of seventy-one, in 1914 and is buried in Goshen.
