Powell, Ambrose, born 1/18/1761 in Culpeper County, Virginia; entered service 1780 in Orange County, Virginia where he resided, in Virginia regiment as substitute for father Thomas; moved after Revolutionary War to Albemarle County, Virginia, for 1 year, thence to Kentucky where received Pension Estill County in 1832; grand-daughter Mrs. Marium Barton applied for bounty land warrant 1906 abt. age 82 in Louisville, Kentucky, saying her father John B. Powell was War of 1812 soldier, her brother Anson D. Powell was Civil War soldier, her first husband Hiram Bellis was Mexican War soldier, she married (2) Mr. Barton; Bounty Land application rejected, she was not aq minor in 1855. F-S14197, R1962.
