Early Land Acquisition in Virginia

Acquisition of Land from Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants:

  • M-58: Ambrose Barnett of Orange County is in possession of 100 acres in Culpeper County, part of tract granted his father John Barnett dec'd & William Philips for 1,100 acres 20 May 1735. Said 100 acres was conveyed to John Boston and reconveyed to [John] Barnett dec'd who by will devised same to his son Ambrose Barnett (Records of Orange Court). Resurveyed by Mr. Philip Clayton shows 1,546 acres surplus in bounds. Grant for 1,646 acres to Ambrose Barnett adj. Zachary Gibbs & John Medley, John Buford, Joseph Rodgers dec'd, Smiths Run, James Barber, Bever Dam Run, Hon. John Grymes dec'd, Will Gibbons formerly said John Barnett, John Boston. 29 Sept. 1762.
