Amanda Jane died in childbirth March 28, 1886. She was buried the next day in an unmarked grave in Beulah cemetary in Colby in the part designated as the Potter’s Field. Family lore is that Amanda was Cherokee. Her father was born in North Carolina, and took on land in Indiana about the time the Cherokee were moved to the reservation in Oklahoma Territory.
