    Alvin Leroy Whiteman Sr., 72, Frankfort, died at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012, at St. Vincent Frankfort Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1939, in Frankfort, to Alfred L. and Freda W. (Laughner) Whiteman. He married Lynn A. (Reecer) Tarkington on Nov. 4, 2000, in Frankfort, and she survives.

    Mr. Whiteman was a graduate of Forest High School and Ivy Tech. A Seabee in the U.S. Navy, he served from July 1957 to September 1960 in Bermuda and was a fireman in Bermuda from 1960 to 1964. Mr. Whiteman returned to Frankfort in 1973. He worked at Sonoco-Crellin in Frankfort for 30 years, retiring in October 2003. Mr. Whiteman held a private pilot license, was an avid golfer, loved to cook and travel, especially visiting the ocean in Florida. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Frankfort, a member and past governor of the Moose Lodge, Frankfort, and had the honor of being a Moose "Fellow."

    He is survived by his wife, Lynn A. Whiteman, Frankfort; two sons, Alvin L. Whiteman Jr. (wife Pam), Frankfort, and Todd M. Whiteman (wife Jen), Frankfort; one daughter, Kimberly D. Bousum (husband Josh), Kokomo; stepson, Chris Tarkington, Michigantown; three sisters, Patricia Fausett (husband Herb), Kokomo, Margaret Troutner (husband Harold), North Liberty, and Sandra Ostler (husband Jerry), Frankfort; one brother, Paul Whiteman (wife Agnes), Ellettsville; three grandchildren, Jordon Bousum and Riley and Conner Tarkington; three great-grandchildren, Lawrence Southern and Quinten and Allie Drew; and special uncle, Alvin Laughner, Kokomo.

    All friends are welcome to a celebration of life honoring Al, which will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Frankfort Moose Lodge 7, 2880 E. Wabash St., Frankfort. Private family funeral services will be held. Burial with military rites will be in Whiteman Cemetery, Michigantown.
