BIOGRAPHY: Alva Knight studied law privately,he was admitted to the bar April 3, 1866. Admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States, November 4, 1870.

He registered in Columbia County,,Florida, in 1867. Alva was a locating agent for Madison, Taylor, La Fayette, Suwannee, Columbia and Hamilton counties in Florida.

1868-1872, Circuit Judge 4th Judicial Circuit, Florida 1873, US District Attorney, North District of Florida. Seems to be some confusion about where he was U.S. Attorney-Supreme Court Records U.S. Versus Smith 286 U.S. 6 1932 Footnote 18 indicate he was confirmed as U.S. Attorney on June 5 1872 for the Northern District of New York.

He was a member of the Constitutional Convention which formed the Florida State Constitution. A State Senator for 2 years. 1872 a Presidential Elector. 1873-1879 U.S. Internal Revenue collector for Florida.
