Mr. Alonzo E. Peden died at his home just outside the corporate limits of the city, on the Lower Bowling Green road, last Thursday, every suddenly. He had been in poor health for sometime, but was able to be about. He was working in his garden when he was stricken and died in a few moments. Mr. Peden was eighty-two years of age, and was one of the best known and most highly respected citizens in the county. He was born and reared a few miles south of Glasgow, and spent his entire life in Barren county, except for the time he was in the Confederate army. He enlisted at the age of 14 years and belonged to General Morgan's command. He was one of the only four Confederates left in the county, and was the youngest. The three remaining Confederates are Mr. John Bill Neighbors of Etoile, Mr. John Clayton of Beckton, Mr. Shel Martin of Cave City. Mr. Peden is the last of his generation to pass over the River.

He leaves six children, eleven grand-children and three great-grand-children. The children are as follows: Mrs. Shel Martin and Mrs. Morgan Peden of Detroit, Mrs. R.L. Montgomery of Paducah, Mrs. Clarence Osborne, Mr. Ebley Peden, and Mr. C. Peden, of this place, and all the children were present at the funeral.

Mr. Peden [w]as twice married, first to Miss Mollie Adams, the mother of all his children, and some years after her death he was married to Miss Helen Webb, who survives him.

Mr. Peden was a member of the Baptist Church at South Fork, was a model member and had the confidence of all his acquaintances. Funeral services were held at the residence by his pastor, Rev. Howell, of Scottsville, after which the remains were interred in the Glasgow Cemetery.
