In her later years, she appears to have lived with and or been close to Harold Shearer, her first cousin. Since it was her maiden name used on a letter dated 1979, I am assuming that she remained single. According to Harold's niece Lil, Alma was confined to a wheelchair because of arthritis. Harold moved in to help take care of her.
