Mrs. John Cargill

Alice L. Wagoner, daughter of Daniel and Mary Wagoner, was born in La Grange County, Indiana, on September 30, 1851 and passed away at her home in Hart, Febryary 7, 1935 at the age of eighty-three years.

She came to Oceana County in 1872 and has resided here every since. On December 24, 1880 she was united in marriage to John Cargill of Weare township, and they made their home on a farm in that locality until 1910 when they moved to Hart.

In girlhood Mrs. Cargill joined the Lutheran Church, but after coming to Weare became a member of the Crystal Valley M.E. Church and later of of the Cargill Methodist Church which was built on their farm. This church later disbanded and Mrs. Cargill united with the M.E. Church of Hart. In her church life she was known to be very useful and helpful, acting as organist and choir leader for 12 years in the Cargill church, assisting greatly in the time of the building enterprise, in raising of funds, and as an official of the church. After coming to Hart she was useful in the choir and on the church decorating committee until failing health caused her to discontinue.

She was a charter member of the Ladies of the G.A.R. and at one time active in the Eastern Star. Of late years however, the G.A.R. Circle disbanded and she dropped out of the Star.

Whe leaves to mourn their loss, the husband and one daughter, Esther; two brothers, George Wagoner of Topeka, Indiana and John Wagaoner of Conneaut, Ohio, besides many neices and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

Funder services were held in the Hart Methodist Church, Monday, February 11th at 2 o'clock, conducted by her pastor Rev. F.M. Clough and her excellent neighbor, Rev. H. Moody.
