Alice Moy was born in Hull in 1874 to Benjamin Moy and Harriet Wiskar. She was their youngest child. The family originally came from Norfolk, but went to live in Hull around 1869/1870. The family were back in Norfolk by 1881, where they ran a beerhouse. Most of the family emigrated to Australia in 1883. They travelled there unassisted on a ship called the Drummuir.
