Coventry, Rhode Island Historical Cemeteries By Dr. Bill Eddleman and John E. Sterling 1998 CY030 This is one of the three cemeteries commonly called Knotty Oak. It is located 20 feet south of Washington Street (Route #117) just west of the intersection with Route #116 at telephone pole #100. It is opposite Woodlawn Cemetery (CY066). And next to Manchester Cemetery (CY109) It contains about 1900 burials with 1365 inscribed stones. There are 54 Civil War veterans in this cemetery indentified on their gravestones and probably more who are not identified. James Arnold visited this cemetery on November 22-27, 1904 and October 5-6 and November 29, 1905, (Vol. 6,Books 18, 19, D and F; pages 334 - 448, 491 - 507, 649 - 772), "In this yard is a fine receiving tomb and the lots are all in good order. We commence our notes from the S. E. corner." It was recorded in 1932 by Anthony Tarbox Briggs and again in 1984 Amelia K. Whitford.
