  1. Alice Ruth (Haight) Diischer was born on Nov. 19, 1932 in Elk Township,

    Buena Vista County, to Howard and Elsie (Corrington) Haight. She graduated from Aurelia High School and attended Buena Vista College.

    In 1951 Alice was united in marriage to John "Jack" Diischer in Jackson

    Minn. They made their home near Alta for 50 years until Jack's death in 2001, at which time Alice moved into the town of Alta.

    Alice taught school in Cornell, and then was a stay-at-home mother for several years when her children were young. As her children grew, she re-entered the work force as a Tupperware representative, bookkeeper for Pampered Beef, bus driver for Alta Community School, and for 25 years operated "Travel With Alice and Jack" with her husband. Alice enjoyed reading, traveling, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

    Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alta, where she served as an Elder, Deacon, and Trustee. She was also a member of Presbyterian Women, Lydia and Martha Circles, Nokomis Study Club, The We Care Group, Band Mothers, 4-H, the Alta Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and Past Matrons.

    Alice entered the Rolfe Care Center in Rolfe on Nov. 2, 2006. She passed away on April 13, 2008 at the age of 75 years, four months, and 25 days after a lengthy illness.

    She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; parents Howard and Elsie; brothers Glen, Gerald, Howard Jr., Henry and Murlan; sisters Mildred, Betty and Elsie Mae.
