Alice (Bigge) Tilden was the youngest daughter of Robert Bigge of Benenden, whose ancestry has been traced to Richard Bigge of Benenden, his great-grandfather, who died in 1474, through Robert Bigge, his grandfather, who died in 1500, and Edward Bigge, his father. Like the Tildens, the Bigges were prosperous yeomen. Robert Bigge, in his will dated January 13, 1547/8, and proved June 2, 1648, directs his wife and executrix, Elizabeth Bigge, to take the profits of all his other lands and tenements until they amount to £40, to be paid to Elizabeth, Dorothe, Elionor and Alyce, his daughters, to each £10 at day of marriage or age of twenty years.
