  2. Obituary, in the Franklinton "Era Leader," 4 Dec 1919.

Died. On Saturday, November 29th, at her home in Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Alice Bickham Menton died under operation and was brought here, to her old homoe, for burial. As a young lady Miss Alice Bickham, assumed charge of The New Era printing establishment which business she successfully operated for several years. In this time she marred Mr. Hart who was associated with her in the conduct of the business, and whose failing health necessitated their moving to Texas. They lived in Texas about ten years before Mr. Hart's death, after which Mrs. Hart taught school for the support of herself and six year old son. In 1914 Mrs. Hart was remarried, this time to Captain Oscar Menton, who is now a retired army officer. Mrs. Menton left at her death a nine months old baby girl and a three year old son, besides the son of her former marriage. Mrs. Josie LaCour of Menphis [sic] was with her sister thru the operation and accompanied the body here. The mother, Mrs. T. D. Bickham and another sister, Mrs. George Dickerson Brown from Parksville, Ky., and her brother, Noel Bickham, are expected to arrive this (Wednesday) evening, with the remains, and the funeral will take place from the home here of her sister, Mrs. Mike Babington, at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 4th, Rev. C. N. Kimberlin, assisted by Rev. J. B. Fulton, conducting the service. Interment will follow in Ellis cemetery. The town is in deep sympathy with this family in the loss of Mrs. Menton the eldest daughter, who lead such an active and useful life.
