Alfred Raymond Reynolds was born September 3, 1913 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the son of Zane L. and Ruby L. (Quant) Reynolds. As a young boy, he moved from Colorado with his family and lived in several communities because his father worked for the railroad, having moved nineteen times before he was in high school. While he was in high school in Maryland, Alfred lived on a farm and worked in the peach orchards. Alfred's ambition was to be a medical doctor.
After his service in the United States Navy during World War II, Alfred graduated from the Cleveland College of Embalming and came to LaGrande, Oregon where he served his apprenticeship. He was a licensed mortician in the LaGrande, Albany, and Tillamook communities. Alfred retired in 1970.
Alfred was united in marriage to Evelyn Corona Marie Cope on November 10, 1967 in Tillamook, Oregon. They made their home in Tillamook and Rockaway until 1988 when they moved to the Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Forest Grove. Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, on March 31, 1992, after twenty-four years of marriage.
On October 8, 1992, Alfred was married to Patricia Walker in Forest Grove. They have made their home at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home since. Alfred and Patricia had celebrated their 7th Wedding Anniversary this past October.
He was a member of the St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Tillamook. He was actively involved in his Lodge work, having served as Past Master of the Tillamook Masonic Lodge #57 in 1973 and 1981; Past Master of Progressive Lodge; Past High Priest of the Royal Arch #56 in 1978; Past Patron of the Eastern Star Silverware 1959-60 and 1981-82; as well as Past Patron of Tualatin O.E.S. #31 and Holly O.E.S. #126. He was also a member of the Hollbrook Masonic Lodge #30 in Forest Grove, Research Lodge #198 in Portland; and Al Kader Shriners in Portland.
Among his interest, he enjoyed fishing, photography, clockwork and stamp collecting. He enjoyed embroidery and had won awards at the county fair in Tillamook for his work. While a resident at the Jennings-McCall Center, he chronicled the history and promoted the home in numerous speeches and articles.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Alfred died May 18, 2000 at his home in Forest Grove. He is survived by his wife, Patricia S. Reynolds, of Forest Grove; two daughters, Patricia M. Wallace of Boulder, Colorado; and Harriett R. Gibson of Portland, Oregon; a son, John Z. Reynolds of Jackson, Michigan; a brother, Harold Reynolds of Santa Clara, California; and two sisters, Ruth Shrimplin of Cassville, Missouri; and Helen Wilson of San Jose, California.
He is also survived by three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
