Biography of Alexander Louis York
Funeral services for Alexander Louis York, who died at his farm house four miles west of Brandsville, Missouri on Tuesday, May 12, 1931, were held on Wednesday, May 13, 1931 at Evergreen Cemetery, the Rev. Lester Bradford, assisted by J. W. Woods conducting the services. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, West Plains, Missouri[8].
Mr. York was born in Fentress County, Kentucky, on June 15, 1862 and would have been 69 nine years old on June 15. Besides his widow, Martha Ellen Lawson York, to whom he was married in 1884, he also is survived by nine children. They are Walter Benton York, Lewis Alexander York, Robert C. York, and Mrs. Laura Edna Vaughn of Brandsville, James John Riley York of West Plains, Mrs. Della May Rice, Webster A York, Mrs. Dora Truitt of Macon, Missouri, and Mrs. Alice Delk of Helen, Tennessee. He also is survived by thirty-two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Before he died, Mr. York made all of his funeral arrangements, selecting the pastor, the text for his sermon, and asking that Mr. Woods make a brief talk. He also requested that he be buried in a homemade casket[8].
