Alexander William Turple was a Presbyterian and a fisherman. He was shown on the 1865 map of Ambrose F. Church as living at Smith Settlement. He lived at Musquodoboit Harbour in 1864, at Clam Bay in 1881, moving to Lake Charolotte by 1891 and returned to Clam Bay by 1901. He was a crew member of the Mary Jane when it went down off Halifax on 17 December 1876, but he was saved. In Feburary 1891 he purchased for $20 from his son, William Alexander Turple, land at Lake Charlotte.

In the 1871 census return is listed a family with the children William (7), Sarah (5), Angus (3), Charles (1), Elias, which seems to be this family. However, the father is listed as Peter. [ER]

Stevens gives another child, Etta, born 1 July 1892, 'perhaps adopted.' He also notes a Joseph Turple enumerated in the 1901 census as working in the home of this family as a domestic. [ER]
