From Cyclopedia of New Zealand: Rev. A. M. McCallum, sometime of Northcote, a marine suburb on the north shore of Auckland, was born in Glenaimond, Perthshire, in 1832, and graduated at St. Andrew's University. He was for fifteen years minister of the Free Church of Scotland at Shandon, Dumbarton. In consequence of ill-health, he went to California In 1875, and engaged in fruit-growing at San Jose. He removed to New Zealand in 1878 and made Auckland his future home. He afterwards accepted a call to the North Belt Presbyterian church, Christchurch, of which he was minister for several years. For the last eight years he lived in retirement on his property “Mount of Olives,” Lake Takapuna, where he was an enthusiastic orchardist; he, however, often occupied the pulpits of his brother ministers. Mr. McCallum was married to a daughter of Dr. Andrew Thomason: she pre-deceased him leaving a family of seven sons and two daughters. He was an upright clergyman and much esteemed in private life for his urbanity and courteous manners. From http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/tei-Cyc02Cycl-t1-body1-d1-d23-d42.html
