The book "History of Greenbrier County" by J. R. Cole, page 128 has the following introduction to the Jacksons of Greenbrier County. I wish I knew his source! But this brief introduction gives a starting place for researching these Jacksons.

"In the year 1820, Alexander Jackson and five brothers set sail from the shores of Ireland for America. The grandfather of the subject of this sketch was the only one of them who located finally in Greenbrier county. After a few years he moved to Monroe county. His wife was a Miss Robinson. She died during the Civil war. He died in 1867."

So the family is found in Monroe County in 1840, 1850 and 1860. By 1870 both Alexander and Marjory have died. Their son James is found in 1860 and 1880 in Greenbrier County; son Alexander R. is found in 1870 also in Greenbrier and it appears that son John W. stayed in Monroe County.

In the 1840 Census we find Alexander and his family in Monroe County, Virginia (now West Virginia) with a total of seven persons in his household: males under 5 1 (John W) males 5-9 1 (Alexander R) males 10-14 1 (James W) males 30-39 1 (Alexander) females 10-14 1 (daughter unknown so far) females 30-39 1 (Margaret) females 70-79 1 (unknown)
