By 1790 Alexander was in the Pendleton District of South Carolina. On 1 Apr 1793 he was granted land on north fork of Twelve Mile River, Pendleton District, SC. On 11 Jan 1794 Alexander sells 115 acres, part of this April land grant to Moses Murphree. By approximately 1811 Alexander and his family are in Rhea County, TN. (He sold the remainder of his property in SC on 22 Oct 1810.) Alexander's son John's place of birth is listed as Tennessee. In late 1819 he moves with his sons Stephen, Alexander Jr, and his wife Martha "Polly" Richards whom he (Alexander, Jr) had married in Dayton, TN on 16 Dec 1815. Several of Martha's brothers moved with this family group. A large number of Polly's family were already in Blount County, AL.
