Alex C. Bickers, farmer and building contractor, P. O., Malta Bend. Mr. A. C. Bickers was born in Orange county, Virginia, September 14, 1836, where he was raised, received his education, and served an apprenticeship at the carpenter trade, at which he has worked both in Virginia and in Missouri. He first came to this state in 1858, and remained until the breaking out of the war. He then returned to Virginia, and joined the Confederate army under Gen. Lee. At the close of the war, August, 1866 he returned to this county, and pursued his trade at Malta Bend, farming also on a small scale at the same time. September 14, 1867, he was married to Miss Martha E. Winslow, of this county, formerly of Virginia. Three children: John B., Henry P., and George E., are now living to bless this union.
