COUNTESS OF SANDWICH.
Announcement was made last night of the death of the Countess of Sandwich of Huntingbrooke, Huntington, England, wife of the ninth Earl of Sandwich, to whom she was married in 1905.
She was a daughter of Thomas Sturges, Chicago banker. Her mother was later married to Francis H. Leggett of New York. With the Leggetts, the Countess spent much of her youth abroad, first in Paris, then in London. She made her debut in 1901 in London, where Mrs. Leggett was one of the leading hostesses of the American colony, during the reign of Edward VII.
Besides her husband, the Countess leaves a son, Viscount Hinchingbrooke, and two daughters, Lady Faith Culme-Seymour and Lady Elisabeth Montague.
