Otago Witness, Issue 1493, 26 June 1880, Page 18 News of the Week Mr. Keith has taken Mr J.W. Jackson's stables, and has engaged Albert Lyford as trainer. Evening Post, Volume XXXVIII, Issue 123, 21 November 1889, Page 2 Mr. Albert Lyford, the well-known horsetrainer, got into an awkward predicament at the Hutt Park yesterday. It appears that while he was attending to Mr. P. P. Tancred's stallion The Premier, the animal seized him by the back, lifted him into the air, and shook him. Just then a Maori rushed in and disengaged Mr. Lyford from the stallion's teeth. Had it not been for this timely interference he might have met with serious injury, and as it is he will bear the marks of the encounter on his skin for some days. Evening Post, Volume XLII, Issue 6, 7 July 1891, Page 2 Sporting Albert Lyford, for many years trainer to Mr. Tancred, of Wairarapa, is about to take up his residence at Palmerston North, where he will commence training on his own account, having procured suitable stables, and has two horses at present to occupy his boxes. Forester, who is owned by Lyford, will be at the service of breeders in the Manawatu district during the coming season. Both are trained by J. J. Gravestock, who succeeded Albert Lyford as trainer for Mr P. F. Tancred, who races Penates. A son of Albert Lyford rode Diplomatic. Otago Witness, Issue 2830, 10 June 1908, Page 55 Wellington Notes By Onlooker June 6 The Otaki Maori Club struck splendid weather for its meeting on Wednesday and Thursday. ...The most successful horsemen at the meeting were A. Oliver and R. Hatch, with three wins each. J. Lyford, who won the two hurdle races on Mount Cook, is a son of the old-time rider Albert Lyford.
