The Cram Sourcebook has that he moved to Burwell, NE in 1893. He was called "Bert", worked in and then owned a bank with others for 30 years after he settled in Burwell. He also had a lumber and coal company named: A.I. Cram Lumber & Coal Company.

He was the treasurer of Burwell from 1896-1899.
