Albert Cortelyou resided near Cranbury, Middlesex Co., N.J. according to a letter written Jan. 1, 1860, by his grandnephew, Peter Cortelyou. His six children were baptized at Six Mile Run. His wife was usually called Lena and is so named in the records of baptism of three of their children. In the other three records of baptism the more formal Helena is used. Late in life Albert moved to Perth Amboy, Middlesex Co., N.J. In his will he identifies himself as "Albert Cortelyou of Perth Amboy, County of Middlesex and Province of New Jersey, Yeoman." He bequeaths to his "dearest beloved Wife Eleanew" (in another place, Elanaw) "one hundred pounds and her Outset that I had with her of House furniture." To each of his daughters Nelly and Catrin he bequeaths "Twenty seven pounds and two Cows, to make them equal with their sister Anny." He gives "unto my eldest son Rolof for his Birth Right three pounds first and foremost and then my Estate in Cranbury to be equally divided amoung my three sons, Roolof, Hendrick, and Jacas -- except my son Roolof take the Estate of my Brother Jacas, then he is only to have three pounds..." Albert's will is dated March 10, 1777, and was probated Feb. 10, 1778.
