Albert Henry Lawrence Bruland Albert Henry Lawrence Bruland, 91, a resident of Duluth, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at the View Crest Nursing Home in Duluth. He was born Sept. 13, 1907, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Lars and Agnes (Bolman) Bruland. He moved to Bennett in 1923 and was married to Mildred Thorssen in 1929. He worked for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad section crew for 12 years, beginning in 1929; at the Butler Shipyard, at the Lake Superior Terminal and Transfer as a blacksmith helper, for Lucas Brothers Logging in Solon Springs as a pulp cutter and for U.S. Steel in Duluth as an oxygen producer, retiring in 1972. In 1956 he was married to Myrtle Abrahamson. He played baseball for Douglas County teams and played golf, basketball and football for many years. He remained a sports fan throughout his lifetime. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elmira) Haack, Middleburg, Fla.; Mrs. Russell (Marilyn) Hoag, Solon Springs; Mrs. Melvin (Delores) Rozell, Lake Nebagamon, and Mrs. Lionel (Betty) Conklin, Duluth; a stepson, Glenn (Felicia) Abrahamson, Sacramento, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Joan Brennan, Mason City, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Jeannette Silva, Hemet, Calif., and many cousins in the United States and Norway. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred, in 1998; his second wife, Myrtle, in 1992; an infant son, two brothers, Elmer Bruland and Norman Areklet; and by two sisters, Virginia Areklet and Mary Ann Jensen. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Brown Funeral Home in Solon Springs with Chaplain Patrick Carey officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Bennett Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Albert's grandsons.
