In his 1852 travel diary from Fond du Lac to Yreka, CA. traveling twice on the overland trail, my 2x gr grandfather (Hinsdale Truman SHEPARD)lists his crew with hometowns. Would greatly appreciate info on any of them. Leader, Tymathy O WHITING, Springvale Wm. B. DISBRO, Springvale Frasdiok G. PROUTY, Springvale Abijah HUBBARD, Springvale Joseph B. SPENCER, Springvale Lester BISHOP, Oakfield James CORNELL, [? Caswell], Oakfield Edwin HUBBARD, Oakfield Almonet SWAN, Oakfield Thomas BEEBE, Fond du Lac Peter HIGLEY, Fond du Lac Alberts BRILL, Rosendale ***** also listed as A.S.Brill John SMITH, Lamartine Lyman HADYN, Waupun

It appears they had one wagon and a small herd of cattle and one or two horses. It is not clear which wagon trains they were connected with. Probably they moved in and out of different ones in their five months of travel.

Hinsdale T. SHEPARD 1852 travel diary, he writes: "...started from Wapon [Waupun]...traveled 10 Miles Put up at John F McCOLLUM... [next day] traveled 16 miles...arived Columbus. stoped at J. BUTTERFIELD Hotel..

Hinsdale T. SHEPARD writes in his 1852 travel diary: "...arived Madison...passed on & put up at Harry BARNES...[next day] traveled 20 Miles put up at BRIGHAMES at the Blew [Blue] Mounds..."

From Devils Gate on June 27,1852: "Heard about 1000 graves. From Wood Creek 200 miles west of Hollman from Ill.[Illinois?] Nisbot & HODGES trains." Sentences merge and spellings are off so not very clear as to what he is saying but appears there were many deaths related to these (or this?) train(s).

Hinsdale T. SHEPARD mentions in his 1852 overland travel diary a temporary meeting up with Carlos KING. They were on the Platte River in what is now Wyoming.
