He was born March 22, 1921 in Melvin, Iowa. He served in the Army during World War II. He married May Herrmann on May 10, 1950, in Tracy, Minnesota. They farmed near Minneota and Arco, Minnesota before moving to Tyler, Minnesota in 1966. They farmed in the Tyler area until retiring into Tyler in 1979. He also worked as a mechanic for Tyler Implement for several years. He was a member of the VFW in Tyler. Survivors include his wife, a stepdaughter Mrs. Roger (Shirley) Althied, Marshall, Minnesota; his stepmother, Bertha Allen, Marshall; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard, Sioux Falls; a sister Mrs. Howard (Genevieve) Peterson,Brandon and two half-sisters, Mrs. Ronald (Marsha) Kruger, Kennewick, Washington and Mrs. Ronald (Marie) Holck, Ruthton, Minnesota.
