Albert H. 'Al" Avers May 7, 1910 -- Jan. 23, 2005 Albert H. "Al" Avers, 94, formerly of Woodville, passed away Sunday evening at Otterbein-Portage Valley Retirement Village, Pemberville, where he had been a resident. He was born in Gibsonburg to Theodore and Louise (Lohrbach) Avers. Al married Anna H. (Smearsoll) on June 14, 1934, in Pemberville, and she preceded him on Sept. 18, 2004. Al was a district representative for Aid Association for Lutherans, now Thrivent, in Appleton, Wis., as well as working in sales/service for OH Sealed Storage in Marysville and Standard Oil Co. in Toledo, Hicksville, and Woodville. Al was also a partner with Pem-Wood Fords Sales in Pembervill He was a member of Solomon Lutheran Church, Woodville, where he was elected and served three terms as church trustee, spent 13 years helping with counting monies at the church, served one term as president and vice president of the Men of the Church, served on the Studying and Planning committee of the building program of the church, was a choir member, and a former Sunday school superintendent. Al served three full terms on Woodville City Council, was a 50-year charter member of the Woodville Civic Club and enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and woodworking in his spare time. Surviving Al are sons, Robert (Joyce) Avers, Pickerington, and Paul Avers, St. Paris OH; daughters, Marilyn (Gerald) Buchholz, Harbor Beach, Mich., and Shirley (Douglas) McKinniss, Findlay; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Anna (Paul) Smearsoll, Pemberville; and brother, Henry (Eleanor) Avers, Woodville. He is preceded by his wife, Anna, his parents, grandson, Theodore Avers, and brothers, Walter and Richard Avers. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Solomon Lutheran Church, Woodville, where there will be additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Marsh Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Woodville. Officiating will be the Rev. Wm J. Duty and Cindy Getzinger. Burial: Union Cemetery Elmore.
