Facts and Events
The birth place of Aeltje as having been in Liege is based on the Journal of Jaspar Danckaerts in which Danckaerts speaks of a very elderly woman with whom he and his friends visited on 29 Sept 1679. The woman's name is not given but Macy deduced that it was a reference to Aeltje. One of the things the journal tells us is that she was from Luyck or Liege and spoke good Wals, which was a French dialect used by the Walloons. References
