In 1903 Adelbert Griffen owned 80 acres of land with a house, on lotplot 18, Boon Township, Wexford County, Michigan He lived in Boon,Wexford, MI in 1917. In 1910 and 1920 he was a farmer. In 1930 he was a railroad stationagent. The following As told by Aunt Jane Watkins McClearry: Myrtle B Smith met Aldelbert Griffen in the small town of Boon,Wexford County Michigan. Both of them having grown up there, and goingto school. Aldelbert, known as Dell by his friends, was 6 yearsolder than Myrtle B Smith. Dell was said to live in a large whitehouse on a hill and that his family had money . It is thought that bythe spring of 1896 Myrtle and Dell were SMITTEN with each other and fell in love. Dell's family did notapprove of Myrtle B Smith, and forbid him to see her. They continuedto see one another. Myrtle became pregnant and Dell asked Myrtle tomarry him. When Dell told his family, they were furious and forbidhim to marry. In about 1930 when Myrtle B Smith was living inIndiana, Dell came to visit. They spent the after-noon together andwhen Dell, left to return home by train, Aunt Jane seen Dell. Shesaid that she remembers Seeing a man that looked like her brother'stwin. Returning home she remembers that her Mom was sad. Aunt Janeasked about the man, but was not given an answer. About Three yearslater Myrtle told Jane the story. And the reason for Dell's visit .
